Estamos en Chile!

Evan did a great job helping to pack for our big trip to Chile:

We have arrived safely in Santiago, Chile. Monday’s five-hour car ride to Miami was nothing compared to an 8-hour overnight plane ride. Evan only slept about 4 hours and I think Joel and I slept less than him. Having Evan with us made customs and immigration go super-easy. We were able to skip ahead of the long line since we had a baby!

Evan enjoyed watching the airplanes and trucks at the Miami airport:

We were pretty tired on Tuesday but tried to re-connect with as many friends as possible. It was fun to see people that we hadn’t seen for about 5 years! La Cisterna (the neighborhood in Santiago) looks the same as we remember it but the ministry site looks a lot different. When we left, only the church building was completed. Now there are 4 condos built on the property that will eventually house a set of foster parents with children.

We have enjoyed helping with lunch the past two days. Janine is in South Chile for the next 2 weeks so I’m sure Jack has appreciated a couple extra hands in the kitchen.

Tuesday night we had 2 surprises! First, Claudia’s parents came to visit us. We were very excited to answer the door to where we are staying and be greeted by familiar faces. For those of you who may not know, we met Claudia when we were here the first time. I was teaching English with her in one of the schools near our neighborhood. She was done with high school and looking to go to college to be an English Teacher. We connected her with Lincoln Christian College. Joel’s parents allowed her to live with them and supported her in many other ways. Now she is due to graduate from LCC in May! Claudia’s parents are very proud of her, as are we.

Our second surprise came around 10:30pm. Evan was asleep and I was almost asleep. Joel had gone down to Jack’s house for dinner where Richard, Paula, and Christopher showed up! Joel brought them back to the ministry site where were staying so that I could see them too. Evan woke up and played with Christopher while we sat around catching up! It was SO much fun.

And here are some random pictures of Evan....

Sitting on the steps at Jack and Janine's house:

Lounging on the patio...

And of course playing with keys....
