Pumpkin Patch
On Saturday Evan and I went to a pumpkin patch! Well it wasn't a real pumpkin patch....more like someone brought in a bunch of pumpkins on a truck and dumped them in the church yard but Evan enjoyed it. Our friends, the Lozanos, were volunteering so while Joel was working I thought it would be fun to take Evan over there. They had a bounce house that turned out to be a lot of fun too! Our friends took a bunch of pictures of Evan and I together so I'll be sure and post some of those when I get them.

Election Season
I admit I've been very angry lately. Joel has been working SO much. Evan and I barely get to see him and when we do see him I'm usually angry at him because I know he's going to leave to go back work soon. It has really sucked.
I have Evan's toys split between the living room and his bedroom so sometimes we play upstairs and sometimes we play downstairs. I snapped this picture just before we went up to play. You can see one of his front teeth!
And during the day we always try to play outside! When Evan sees my keys he says "may" which means "mail." He knows we are going outside and that we will eventually get the mail. However, we can't make it to the mailbox without stopping to play with the rocks. Yesterday he did something new. He picked up a bunch of rocks and one by one put them in a pile up on the fence....
I think we had a break-through last night. Up to this point Joel has been very positive and has had the "we're going to make it through this" kind of attitude. I've been resenting him because he's never home and he makes me feel like I'm the bad one for being so angry about it. I think all I wanted from him was for him to stop being so positive and fake with me long enough to tell me his real feelings: He doesn't like the situation either. He doesn't enjoy the 13-plus hour days. He doesn't enjoy being away from Evan and I so much and missing out on the things we do together.
I know it sounds odd but I just needed him to be angry with me for a minute so that I could see we were both feeling the same way and that we could make it through this rough time and that everything was going to be ok.
So what have Evan and I been up to while Joel is slaving away at work?
Evan likes to help me with the laundry. He really enjoys putting the clothes in the dryer and the other day he helped me take the sheets off the bed...

Megan came over to play one morning this week and Evan wanted to show her his cupboard that he is allowed to play in...
They also wanted to go upstairs to play...
They settled for having a drink together...
And watching Jack through the window...
We also had Zach over one morning to play. Watching the cat on the porch seems to be fun for everyone...
When Joel is home he is really good about getting down on the floor and playing with Evan. Here are my two favorite boys with "hats" on their heads...

After we got the mail we went to the grassy area in the front of our neighborhood. We kicked the soccer ball around, picked up some more rocks, mulch, sticks, rotten wood, whatever looked interesting. But best of all its a great place to run off some energy!
Evan and I have a great time together and look forward to this crazy election season to be over so we can spend more time with Joel!

Hiding Vegetables
Evan has been anti-vegetables for awhile now. I've been trying to think of creative ways to get him to eat them. Monday night I made a veggie-marinara sauce for our pasta. He still picked around the carrots. Today for lunch I steamed some grated yellow squash and put it in a quesadilla. He ate almost all of it!
If anyone has a creative way of hiding vegetables so Evan will eat them please let me know!

Chuck Wicks, Jewel, & Brad Paisley
Renae and I got the opportunity to attend the Chuck Wicks, Jewel, & Brad Paisley concert last night on campus. We had a ton of fun! I definitely needed a girls night out...
That is Chuck singing in the background of our picture. He was really good! Renae and I decided that we approved of him dating Julianne Hough from Dancing with the Stars.
I'm pretty sure I liked Jewel's performance just as much as the main event of Brad Paisley. She did awesome and she looked great in her cute green dress and black cowboy boots! Who else could pull that off? I loved that she played some of her old-school songs along with her new country stuff!
Brad came out to "Mud on the Tires" and we learned that he does all his own graphics for the big screen...that must have been quite a job! The whole stage was pretty hi-tech.
I think my favorite song he did was "She's everything." Another highlight of the night was when Tim Tebo got up and sang with Brad....the crowd went crazy. And Renae and I just had to laugh when he did his "Alcohol" song in front of all the college students. It was the perfect crowd for that tune...
I kept Renae out 'til midnight on a school night (she's a teacher!). Hopefully she survived her day at school today:)

Tomato Soup
On Monday for lunch we had grilled cheese and tomato soup. Evan saw Joel drinking his soup and wanted to do it too...
It was a little messy but fun...
